Another Phil Mickelson story…

Written by RMS Videos on August 9, 2012

Although Phil Mickelson played one of the most erratically/amazing (if you can use those together) rounds of golf today. He has yet again another classic Phil Mickelson story. On his practice round he pulls a standard Phil action and hits a ball over to a house party. To show his love for his fans. Check this story out….

Welcome to RMS!!!

Written by Brandon Connolly on March 28, 2012

Welcome to RMS…

Thanks for coming by. Here is a little about us, so you guys know why we do, what we do, when we do, what we do hangin out late… (Sorry had to). Anyway, we created this for you the golfer. We are all in some way or another obsessive compulsive about our golf game, in particular our swing. It’s OK, we admit our problems and quite frankly have no intentions on correcting our compulsiveness.

How it all got started,

Watching golf on a Sunday afternoon thinking “hmmm, how do you get a swing like these guys without hiring a $100.00 an hour swing coach (not that they are bad) and getting half the lesson filled with his greatest golf shot stories”? How about a site where you could upload your swing, get it “RATED” and have a community of golfers, along with instructors, comment on your swing and give you correction ideas? Then we thought ok sounds cool, but how many people bring a video camera to the range or on the course with them? We came up with the idea that EVERYONE has a cell phone (OK Uncle Jesse I know you don’t yet.) and most people would rather be late to work because they had to turn around and get it, then not have it on them for one day. So the mobile application idea was born. We connected with some great app developers and started the plans on that. We now have a mobile device for anyone who can create a quick video and it’s now as easy as a click of a button to submit your swing directly from the RMS app to our site…PERFECT!

Who are these guys (and girls)?

Brandon – Is an absolute golf freak. He has been swinging the clubs for 25 years and thinks “he should have won the lottery so he did not have to work and could have practiced everyday to be on tour”. Honestly the guy could practice for 8-10 hours a day and never get tired of it. He has an established single digit handicap and loves to play for money with the boys! Brandon has an amazing family with a beautiful wife and 2 amazing kids who he adores beyond belief. Brandon is an advocate for the “keep it simple” golf swing and is excited to get everyone playing better.

Mike – Plays 3 to 4 times any given week (weather permitting in the Pacific Northwest…). He’s known for his colorful sense of humor and easy going demeanor. Like Brandon, Mike would prefer to be a career golfer but until that day comes he spends his Monday thru Friday designing and building custom remodels for lucky home owners. Mike’s biggest bragging rights, second to being a co-founder of the site and winning the worlds’s best Dad/Husband of the universe title, is his new membership to a local, private club (ranked as 63rd most difficult in N. America by Golf Digest in 2011).

Krista – has only a couple seasons of play under her belt but already suffers from the addiction of 18 holes a week. She loves the game, the culture and the self-driven challenge required to master the sport. Krista is a well known market research professional by day and a serial social media fanatic by night (all while juggling a husband and 2 children). She has a talent for marrying Mike & Brandon’s passion for the game with her passion for business and combined will someday fuel this start up idea into stardom. She also makes a mean sandwich….

Lyndzie – Is a mother and a wife and wouldn’t have it any other way! She has recently started to play this great game we all love and enjoy but at times she states that “this is the stupidest game ever invented”. She is determined to get the hang of it even if she has to buy stock in Band Aids to cover the blisters! One thing she “has” gotten the hang of, is the cart and the bloody mary’s that fit in the cup holders! She is still not sure about watching golf on T.V. for 5 hours but occasionally will sit down and take in a couple holes. She plays an intricate part on our team and is very good at thinking about things as our users would, as they navigate the site!

To wrap it up.

We hope you guys enjoy the site and spend some time playing around on here. We really think that the social aspect of golf is really going to play a key roll in this. After all, can you think of another sport where you can show up as a single, get put into a group of three buddies, introduce yourself, hang out for 4 ½ hours, have a “beverage” or two or three….and by the end of it you shake hands, thank each other exchange numbers (to play again) and go home and tell your spouse how hard of a day it was at work…You gotta love this game!

Think you have swing thoughts….?

Do you utilize range time?

Written by Brandon Connolly on March 23, 2012

My question is… When you go to the range and you get out of your car, put your shoes on and walk in, are you thinking about what you’re gonna work on? Or are you just walking in thinking “I am excited to hit balls into this field of a million balls”? If you choose the later of thoughts it’s time to change.

When you first get to the range, have a game plan. Golf is an individual sport so it takes a little more self discipline to stay focused. Think about it, if you have played any other “Team sport” when you go to practice there is a coach and he has drills for you to do, he has game thoughts for you to think, and he tests for you to pass. What good would a practice be without a plan or a purpose?

My other questions is… How do you split your time up? Do you walk in and grab your driver and  pound 115 balls out into the field, throw your driver back into the bag and call it good?

Practice should have a purpose. If you don’t feel comfortable creating these “CRAZY” swing thoughts on your own, get a swing coach or an instructor to put the correct thoughts in and make the most out your time at the range. All in all if you spend money on practice balls and spend time at the range, utilize your time with good practice and equal club opportunity. 1/3 long game 1/3 short game and 1/3 putting!

SEE YOU ON THE RANGE!

Salishan Spa & Golf Resort

Salishan Spa & Golf Resort

7/02/2011

Took a trip down to the Oregon Coast over the holiday and played Salishan. What a beautiful coastal course that, that I would consider one of Oregon’s little secrets. It is about 20 minutes south of Lincoln City and 10 minutes north of Depot Bay.

Upon arrival we were greated very nicely by the pro shop addressing by “Mr. Connolly” which gave it that private club feel (minus all the stuck up snoots). The pro shop was very nice and looked like it had been upgraded recently.

As we headed over to warm up for the round we found a nice little practice facility. All though hard to dial in distance because of the severely up hill range, we were able to knock off the early morning “fuzz” from the night before. After warm we cruised over to the putting green, which is fairly close to hole one tee box. The putting surface was impeccable, and we later found it to be a very true gauge of speed throughout for the round. Which is nice because nobody like to dial in their speed at the practice green, only to find out the course spends all their time there,  instead on the 18 greens you actually play!

Other then some amazing veiws from several holes. The course itself is amazing. The interesting thing about Salishan is it really plays Very differnt from front to back. The first nine holes we had no wind and your tucked up away from the sea breeze amongst some houses. After the turn we “got to” play in the wind of a coastal course. A bit of shock to your game but not really considering your location. The Par 3 15th is something to remember. Your 30ft above the green with an amazing view of the ocean your in complete awe for a moment and then realize, you need to make a club selection (which only sounds easy). People have said this hole can play 3 to 4 clubs longer into the wind. Luckily we only had about a 1 club wind and was not to bad.

All in all fairways were great, course was fun, and we had great time!

Pros; Course conditions, Views, Greens, Staff

Cons; Yardages are tough “without your yardage book”, Price is a little steep.

Washington National

6/20/2011

I got the chance to play Washington National this June. Though I married a Coug, I still gave this great course a chance. As far as the course and the amenities I was pleased from the moment I arrived “other than all the purple and gold” a very aesthetically pleasing first look. The staff is very pleasing and the bartender had a good sense of humor. My tee time was 10:40am is that too early meet the bartender? Anyway, it had a great little club house with an outdoor sitting area off the café looking down the very intense 18th with it’s three tier green and giant bowl in the left front. Sure to make an exciting finish to any round.

The practice facility is… let’s just leave it at OK. It is down away from the first tee box and not really marked for yardages on the public end anyway… I would imagine the UW team side is marked for yardage but oh well. It is turf, it was in good shape and I got my shanks out down there.

The putting green is nice and big. It’s very close to the first tee and the speeds were true enough to the green speeds throughout the course.

When I got to the first tee, the starter was very helpful. He explained the waist areas and let us know that they had the greens rolling at 10.5 to 11 on the stimpmeter. He also gave us our scorecards and a nice little bonus with the card is a yardage book that you will need! Great starting hole, a par 5 to give you chance to start your round with a birdie and get the ball rolling in the right direction. Tune up your bunker play because they put “W” shaped bunker on almost every hole in case you forget where you are. We were convinced that the greens crew was having a really bad Monday when they placed all the pins, some of them were pretty tough to get to. All in all I was very happy with Washington National and would definitely play again.

Pros; Course condition, pace of play, green constancy, staff

Cons; Location, price, practice facility
